The Evelina Children’s Hospital was founded in 1869 by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild whose wife, Evelina, and their child had died in childbirth. Now managed under the auspices of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, in 2004 a new Evelina Children's Hospital was completed, which is revolutionary in design and built for patients rather than doctors.
