Case Study: St Mary's Hospital, Paddington / Imperial College

The Rothschild family has had connections with St Mary’s Hospital for 125 years, since 1891 and Sir Evelyn de Rothschild was closely involved for more than 50 years. This relationship has been more than financial with the family providing leadership – Mr Anthony de Rothschild was Chairman of the Hospital Board of Governors from 1944–1955 and Sir Evelyn served from 1963, including President of St Mary’s Medical School from 1977–1988.

Recent support has been directed at the Clinical Skills Centre and Global Health Design Centre, both based at St Mary’s Hospital. Through these new centres, new educational pathways will integrate design and technology ideas within educational frameworks. Funding was specifically made to create a PhD fellowship based at St Mary’s with the aim of improving education and the needs of patients.
